Family Law Practice

Barrie Goldstein has been a passionate and compassionate defender of children and families for more than three decades. She combines a personal approach to her clients’ needs with professional know-how to resolve their legal issues.

Ms. Goldstein's family law practice focuses primarily on Litchfield County and the surrounding portions of western Connecticut. Barrie has also been called upon by individuals from other regions of the United States for her tenacious legal representation to serve their interests at all levels of the judicial system. She understands that, in many of these cases, personal emotions are as important as legal motions to the people involved.

Family Law attorney Barrie L. Goldstein represents clients in a wide variety of family law issues, including:

Divorce

Barrie Goldstein understands the financial and legal consequences of a divorce as well as the personal sensitivities involved for the individual looking to move forward with his or her life. She makes sure her clients understand how marital property will likely be divided in a settlement, how child custody and visitation arrangements are determined, and how child support and alimony are established. Ms. Goldstein also prepares clients for how a divorce can affect their taxes, credit scores, healthcare benefits, and retirement savings accounts.

Ms. Goldstein also handles post-divorce modifications of a family court order where necessary. She can initiate enforcement proceedings in cases where an ex-spouse fails to abide by the terms of the divorce settlement with regard to items such as the payment of marital debt, spousal support, or child support.

Children

Children’s rights are central to Barrie Goldstein both personally and professionally. Ms. Goldstein is a child protection-oriented lawyer, even when representing the parent. Barrie strongly believes that the parent’s interest must be in the best interest of the children. She is committed to doing what is best for the child – balancing the harm of the child being pulled away from the valley vs. the harm of the child remaining in the home.

Barrie’s extensive background as a Legal Aid attorney enables her to know how to interview a child and how to make a child more comfortable – a critical part of representing children.

As a guardian ad litem and a defender of children, Barrie Goldstein places the interests of children first. “I like representing children,” she proudly declares. “We need more representation of children.”
